The Berton College English and ELL Programs

The Berton College ELL/ESL Program brings together students from all over Greater Vancouver.  They enjoy small, lively classes or one-on-one tutorials.  To help students succeed in school, our course is a mixture of English Language Learning (ELL) and regular English courses. Our students become more capable English speakers who can live and work in Canadian society. They also become confident in their ability to master English, knowing that they can graduate from high school and flourish in university.

Teachers show students how they are doing and how they can improve: they give spoken feedback, comments on assignments, and term reports. The assessment and evaluation practices used at Berton College follow the best practices of the BC Education system. They enable students to take some risks to improve as learners and to learn to meet or exceed the standards expected of all students.  Parents are always welcome to confer with teachers about the students’ progress. Chinese speaking staff is available when needed to help with translations.

Students who advance through the Berton College ELL program often then move on to the “regular program” of Berton College English Language Arts (ELA) classes. They may join either or both of the following classes, which are available to all grades.
